Omicron variants of Coronavirus are increasing rapidly around the world. However, the Omicron variant is reported to be less severe than the delta strain, which caused millions of deaths worldwide. The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned about the Omicron variant of Kovid-19. The WHO said on Thursday that Omicron is killing people around the world and should not be taken lightly.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that a record number of people are falling prey to the new variant – in many countries its speed is faster than the delta variant – meaning that hospitals are filling up faster.

“Omicron appears to be less severe than Delta, especially in people who have been vaccinated. However, this does not mean at all it should be classified as a mild variant,” Tedros told a news conference.

He clarified, “Like earlier variants, Omicron is taking people to the hospital and it is killing people.” He said, “In fact, the tsunami of cases is so large and fast that it is taking a toll on health systems around the world.
