Corona cases are increasing continuously. For the first time in 9 months in the country, corona cases have crossed 1 lakh. At the same time, in Gujarat also on January 6, about 4000 cases of corona were reported in a single day. This also includes the Omicron variant of the Corona variant spread from South Africa. As everyone knows the symptoms of Omicron are very common and not fatal, but it is also very important to be afraid of its extension.
In view of the increasing cases of corona, Bhaskar Digital spoke to veteran cardiologist and member of Gujarat Corona Task Force Padmashree Dr. Tejas Patel. Dr. Tejas Patel during the first and second wave
The guidance was very helpful to the people. Now that the third wave of Corona has started, many questions are arising in everyone’s mind. Dr. Tejas Patel has answered these questions. presented to them
Highlights of the conversation…
Bhaskar : What is the reason for the sudden increase in corona cases?
Dr. Tejas Patel: Every wave of Corona has come in this way. Meaning the first and second wave of corona also came first in some countries of the world and then reached India. After Omicron, third wave of corona arrived in the country
Is. Omicron is very contagious. If 50 people are sitting in a room and one of them has Omicron, it can infect everyone. However, the relief is that it is like the first and second wave.
is not fatal. Apart from this, we have got massive vaccination done here. So those who have taken two doses need not panic with Omicron, but do need to be careful. Omicron variant users
It is also capable of infecting people who have not yet got corona. One more important thing about the Omicron variant is that it can greatly improve the immune system of people and then the virus can become infected.
It will become a virus like the common cold.
The third wave of corona will be at its peak in the third or fourth week of January: Dr. Tejas Patel.
Bhaskar : What will happen to the third wave of Corona?
Dr. Tejas Patel: Looking at the speed with which the cases are increasing, it can be said that the third wave has arrived. This wave will also have its peak, but whatever wave has come, it has also ended. second wave for us
was painful. However, if there are no deleterious mutations other than Omicron, cases of Omicron may increase, but very few people will need hospitalization and the mortality rate will be low.
Bhaskar : When will the third wave peak?
Dr. Tejas Patel: As the number of cases continues to rise, it looks like the third wave of corona will be at its peak in the third or fourth week of January.
Bhaskar : Is there a possibility of a second wave like situation?
Dr. Tejas Patel: Virus patterns are changing, variants are new and as more and more people are getting infected, entire societies are moving towards herd immunity. Hence the death toll in the third wave
The probability of an increase as compared to the
Bhaskar : Which youth or children are more likely to be infected with Omicron in the third wave?
Dr. Tejas Patel: People who have not been vaccinated are more likely to get the infection. But, now that vaccination has started in children too, then the situation will not be complicated. But at this time co-morbid patients need to be more careful. However, Omicron is in a very mild form and its symptoms are common. Many patients are turning negative on the fourth-fifth day. But, still we need to be careful that we do not crowd and follow the corona guidelines.
As more and more people are getting infected, the whole society is moving towards herd immunity : Dr. Tejas Patel.
Bhaskar : Planning to vaccinate 2-14 year olds?
Dr. Tejas Patel: Children under the age of 15 are being vaccinated abroad. The guidelines for vaccination are determined by the ICMR members. Looking at some conditions in India too, it seems that soon vaccination will be started in children below 15 years of age.
Bhaskar : The doctors are saying that the epidemic will end with Omicron, to what extent is this true?
Dr. Tejas Patel: As more and more people are getting infected with a mild form of Omicron, but they do not have much problems, it causes people to produce antibodies and T-shell immunity starts working. In that case, the virus becomes like the normal influenza virus. Most viruses are such that they never die. For example, they exist in some form or the other. Just look at smallpox and polio, which are still present today. So we have to learn to live with this virus as well.
Bhaskar : Can it be assumed that now most of the cases will come from Omicron?
Dr. Tejas Patel: As patients are now recovering rapidly, it seems that most of the new cases that are coming to the fore are from Omicron and will continue to be.
Bhaskar : What should I do to avoid Omicron? Which medicine should be taken for prevention?
Dr. Tejas Patel: Whatever we have been doing till now, we have to do the same in future also. Wearing a mask, sanitizing hands and maintaining social distance is essential to avoid Omicron. Don’t get crowded, big in small places
Do not gather in large numbers at all.
Bhaskar : There are reports that Omicron and Delta may jointly spawn Domicron?
Dr. Tejas Patel: There is no variant of the name Domicron. There is no need to be afraid of it now.
Bhaskar : How effective are CoveShield and Co-vaccine against Omicron?
Dr. Tejas Patel: It is a worldwide government policy that if you take two doses of CoviShield you get a booster dose CoVeShield and if you take two doses of Co-Vaccine you get a booster dose.
Co-vaccine only. There is some foreign data that says that if you take the third dose of the vaccine separately than the first two doses of the vaccine, the immunity will be better. I believe that every vaccine is equally effective.
Bhaskar : When will the third wave end?
Dr. Tejas Patel: The faster the virus spreads, the faster its peak comes and then the faster the cases start decreasing. So the third wave is expected to end in two months.
