Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen has said that data of taxpayers has been collected, automated system is being created for tax collection, automatic tax system will increase tax revenue, will not harass every citizen but will collect tax compulsorily.
Addressing a function in Islamabad, Federal Minister for Finance Shaukat Tareen said that we are working for tax reform, our tax system is very complex, we are working for the reform and simplification of tax system, we reach out to tax evaders. Will tell them that your income is so much and you should pay that much tax.
He said that data of taxpayers has been collected, automated system is being set up for tax collection, automated tax system will increase tax revenue, we will not harass every citizen but will collect tax compulsorily.
The Federal Finance Minister said that a legal team is being formed to guide the taxpayers who will guide the taxpayers and listen to their problems. The legal team will listen to the complaints of the taxpayers and take steps to resolve them.
He said that collection of taxes on products was the prerogative of the federal government and sustainable payment of taxes was essential for the economic development of the country.
“We want to do tax documentation. In many countries, tax evaders do not have the right to vote. In Germany, those who do not pay taxes cannot vote,” he said.
Shaukat Tareen said that now we will not give tax notices but now we will reach out to unregistered people and tell them that these are your details, you get so much tax and you have to pay it.
“People pay taxes before we arrive, unregistered people pay immediate taxes, the good news for unregistered people is that we will reach you ourselves, you can say how the government spends the funds properly, you Criticize the government, you point out the government’s mistakes but you have to pay taxes.
The Finance Minister said that now is the time for us to fulfill our responsibility, it is our responsibility to pay taxes, no country can develop without collection of taxes.
Shaukat Tareen said that by simplifying the tax system, more taxes are collected, yet if no one pays taxes, legal action will be taken. In a country of 220 million people, only 3 million people pay taxes.
He said that tax reforms were started in 2009 but the reforms have not been completed yet, now tax will be collected using technology.
