New Delhi: The Central Government has provided VIP security of ‘Y Plus’ category to Punjab MLA Fatehjung Singh Bajwa, who recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Giving information about this, official sources said that this security has been provided for their movement in the election state. Fatehjung Singh Bajwa (63) is an MLA from Qadian assembly seat in Punjab and joined the BJP on December 28, leaving the Congress. Fatehjung is the younger brother of Congress Rajya Sabha member Pratap Singh Bajwa.
Sources in the security establishment said that Fatehjung Singh Bajwa has been provided ‘Y+’ category security for his movement in the election state of Punjab. He said that the Union Home Ministry gave this approval on the basis of a recommendation sent by central intelligence agencies, which highlighted the possible security threats to Fatehjung. This task has been assigned to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and under this classification of security, Fatehjung will be accompanied by a team of 3-4 armed commandos every time they travel to the state.
The central government had also provided ‘Z’ category security to the leader of Punjab, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi. Sodhi had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in December. The security of Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who left the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and joined the BJP in December last year, was also raised by the Center from ‘Y’ category to ‘Z’.
