ED’s joint director took VRS, may contest elections on BJP ticket

New Delhi: The department has accepted the VRS request of Rajeshwar Singh, Joint Director of Enforcement Directorate (ED). Singh is now likely to contest the upcoming UP assembly elections.
Singh, posted in Lucknow, had applied for VRS in August last year. Six months after his request, the department concerned took cognizance of the matter and allowed him for VRS.
There is a possibility that he may contest from Sahibabad.
Till now Singh has not given any official statement regarding his joining BJP and his VRS. He has remained silent on the matter till now.
During his long stint in the ED, he has investigated the most sensitive cases, including the allocation of 2G spectrum. He had also looked into the matter of alleged irregularities in the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, his son Karti Chidambaram, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. s. He has also questioned Jagan Mohan Reddy and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda in connection with various cases.
Singh had landed in controversy in 2018 after he received a suspicious call from Dubai. The call was traced to the intelligence agencies who informed the apex court about it. The then ED Director Karnail Singh has said in a statement that he (Rajeshwar Singh) is a responsible officer.
Singh has B. Tech degree and has a PhD in Police, Human Rights and Social Justice. He has worked as a 1996 batch UP PPS officer as well as a UP Police officer. In 2009, he joined the ED. He was permanently inducted into the ED cadre in 2015. His sister Abha Singh, a practicing lawyer in Mumbai, lauded his possible move, saying the country needs him. Rajeshwar Singh is married to IPS Laxmi Singh.
