Election Commission will not want to interfere in presentation of Union Budget: Chandra

Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said that the Election Commission would not like to interfere in the presentation of the Union Budget. He stressed that the annual budget presentation process would not affect the status of equal opportunity for all political parties in the assembly elections in the five states. During the announcement of the schedule of assembly elections in five states, including Uttar Pradesh, Chandra said that the Union Budget is an annual account which is placed before the Parliament. “The Election Commission would not like to interfere in the presentation of the Union Budget as it is for the entire country and it is not limited to just these five states,” he said in response to a question.

Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra on Saturday said the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) is not an issue anymore. He said that there is a sense of pride that India has developed a machine that gives accurate and fast results. He said this at a press conference called to announce the election schedule for Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly. Chandra said, “EVMs are not an issue anymore” And more than 315 crore voters have used EVMs. We take pride that this country has developed a machine that gives accurate and fast results.

The Election Commission of India on Saturday announced the schedule of assembly elections in 5 states. Voting for the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh will be held in 7 phases from February 10 to March 7. Whereas in Uttarakhand, Punjab and Goa, voting will be held in a single phase on February 14.
