President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported this Monday that he was infected for the second time with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, so it will proceed to isolate itself.

“I inform you that I am infected with #COVID19 and although the symptoms are mild, I will remain in isolation and I will only do office work and communicate virtually until I get ahead, “he posted on his Twitter account.

In his absence, Adam Augusto López, Secretary of the Interior, will lead the traditional press conference in the morning, added the president.

In his ‘morning’ this Monday, the president showed symptoms similar to those of the flu.

“Yes, I woke up hoarse, I’m going to do the test later,” he said at the time.

With the president, there are already three cases of COVID in the cabinet: last Friday, Tatiana Clouthier, Secretary of the Economy, reported that her test had come out positive. In fact, the official met with the president last week.

López Obrador ruled out a test that day after he was informed of the Clouthier infection.

“Nerd. The truth is, I’m fine, I’m fine, and I have no symptoms, that is, when you have symptoms is when you have to get tested. So, I’m very good, ”he said on Friday, January 7.

The other case of COVID within the cabinet is that of María Luis Albores, Secretary of the Environment.

Is a ‘wave’ of infections coming?

The scope of COVID cases in the cabinet will be known in the coming days, since President López Obrador usually holds a meeting with his collaborators from Monday to Friday before starting his press conferences at the National Palace.

He usually attends Monday meetings Claudia Sheinbaum, Head of Government, who wished the head of the Executive Branch a speedy recovery.

How was the first time that AMLO got COVID?

The president’s first infection occurred almost a year ago. He was reported to have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus on January 24, 2021.

Less than two weeks later, on February 4, the president reported that he had finally tested negative for COVID. During his convalescence, the president was practically asymptomatic to the disease and presented with a low-grade fever and headache the first days, explained at the time the Undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell.

President López Obrador had already received his COVID vaccine booster in Jalisco, at the start of the new phase of the National Vaccination Plan that involved older adults.
