Himachal Pradesh Central University is going to do research work on breast cancer treatment through medicinal plants. This will also help in reducing the cost of cancer treatment. The National Board of Medicinal Plants has approved a project named ‘In Vivo and In Vitro Study on Synergistic Effect of Medicinal Plants in Breast Cancer of Mice’ worth Rs 40 lakh 10 thousand 229 for three years. This project has been approved for the School of Life Science. The project team consists of Principal Investigator Dr. Ranjit Kumar and Co-Principal Investigators Dr. Sunil Kumar and Dr. Rakesh Kumar from Department of Zoology. At the same time, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Sat Prakash Bansal has congratulated the project team.

According to Dr. Sunil Kumar, Head of Department of Zoology, currently many chemically derived drugs have been developed and other cancer treatments are already in existence. However, current methods such as chemotherapy have their limitations due to their toxic effects on non-target tissues that further human health problems. There is therefore a demand for alternative treatments with naturally derived anti-cancer agents, of which plants are a desired source. This project is based on finding effective combination of medicinal plant. It has high therapeutic potential for metastatic breast cancer.

Dean School of Life Sciences Prof. Pradeep Kumar has many years of expertise in medicinal plants and under his guidance this project will definitely be helpful in finding effective concentration of medicinal plant for breast cancer treatment. University Vice Chancellor Prof. Sat Prakash Bansal said that this is the first such effort in itself. New research work. For this, Dr. Ranjit Kumar, Principal Investigator in the project team and Dr. Sunil Kumar and Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Co-Principal Investigators from Department of Zoology, deserve congratulations.
