Liquor sales worth Rs 520 crore in Tamil Nadu during Pongal festival

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Sales and Marketing Corporation (Tasmac) sold liquor worth Rs 520.13 crore on January 13 and 14 during the Pongal festival.
According to a Tasmac statement, the sales during January 13 stood at Rs 203.05 crore, while the sales on January 14 stood at Rs 317.08 crore.
Tasmac sales stood at Rs 417.18 crore in the same period in 2021. This shows a massive increase of 24.67 per cent as compared to the figures for 2021.
The Madurai region recorded the highest sales of Rs 111.47 crore in the state, followed by Tiruchi region with Rs 107.10 crore. Salem region recorded the third highest sales with Rs 104.54 crore, while Coimbatore recorded the highest sales of Rs 98.61 crore, while Chennai region recorded the lowest sales at Rs 98.41 crore.
Tasmac has 5300 shops in Tamil Nadu and the average sales figures range from Rs 130 to Rs 140 crore.
He said the long weekend helped drive sales.
