Last weekend, victim María Agustina Di Martino (28), died at the Domingo Funes Hospital in the city of Santa María de Punilla after consuming ecstasy during an electronic party that took place held in the property “La Estación”, a well-known bowling establishment located in the Municipality of San Roque.

In this tragic context, doctor Daniel Gómez visited the study of Meridian 64 to tell us about new drugs and their use.

“Ecstasy is a synthetic drug that replaces the effect of cocaine. It is a stimulant drug that is used to increase physical activity and be able to dance for hours without stopping,” explained the doctor.

Gómez warned that one of the great dangers of this drug is that it can lead to death due to excessive water consumption (this was the case of Di Martino).

“This leads to thirst, which causes the boy to drink water. This leads to pressure inside the arteries and veins which pushes fluid out of the veins into the cells. This is called edema. When that happens in the brain, the brain gets compressed against the skull and then the only outlet it has is the spinal cord and that leads to death,” the doctor detailed.
