The monsoon session of Parliament is underway. Since the start of the session, both Houses of Parliament have been adjourned as opposition parties have made continuous efforts to discuss issues such as rising commodity prices and the GST. The work is not done. The suspension of opposition and protest parties is fascinating.
In this situation, many top Congress leaders and MPs have joined the protest against the Department of Law Enforcement’s investigation of Senia Gandhi in the National Herald case.
Around this time, controversy erupted when Lok Sabha member Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary referred to the president as ‘Rashtrabhatini’. BJP leaders strongly condemned this. Acting Congress President Sonia Gandhi should apologize in the matter, they said.
Smriti Irani and Nirmala Sitharaman spoke about it in Parliament and condemned it. Smriti Rani said: “You have disrespected the head of the armed forces. Congress disrespected him. He said he should apologize for that. At that time, Senia was also talking about Gandhi. This led to a row between the Congress and the BJP.
Nirmala Sitharaman said, “It is an ‘insult to women’ to refer to the President of the Republic as ‘Rashtrapathini’.” Amid heavy criticism and opposition, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury apologized to the president in a letter. It read: ‘I apologize for using the wrong word when referring to the position you hold. The mouth failed. I apologize for that. Please accept the apology,” he said in the letter.
Chowdhury also wrote to Lok Sabha Chairman Om Birla. In it, “Smriti Irani, who spoke on this issue last Thursday, spoke about Sonia Gandhi. I ask them to remove all comments made about Sonia from their notes,” he said.
