CWG 2022: India wins second medal in weightlifting, Gururaja Pujari wins bronze

Sanket Sargar won India’s first medal by winning the silver medal

Young weightlifter Sanket Mahadev Sargar opened India’s account by winning a silver medal in the men’s 55kg event at the Commonwealth Games. Sagar, 21, from Sangli district in Maharashtra, was on his way to a gold medal but missed a kilo after two failed clean and jerk attempts. He won the silver medal by lifting 248 kg (113 and 135 kg). Mohamed Anik of Malaysia won the gold medal lifting a total of 249kg setting a new Games record in the clean and jerk. He lifted 107 kg in the snatch and 142 kg in the clean and jerk. Dilanka Isuru Kumara from Sri Lanka won the bronze medal by lifting 225 kg.

Despite his injury, Sanket won the silver medal

Sargar said in the mixed zone that there was no mistake in the lift. Suddenly I felt a lot of weight on my right elbow and I couldn’t control it. I chose the sound of two clicks. He said, I lift 143 kg in training. I wanted to win gold. I’m not happy with silver because I had been training for gold for four years.
