New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry on Thursday sought a report from the Punjab government on the Ludhiana blast.
According to sources, the top home ministry official has spoken to the state chief secretary and sought a report on the blast in the court premises in Ludhiana.
It is also learned that teams of National Investigation Agency and National Security Guard have been sent to Ludhiana to collect evidence while Punjab Police is investigating the incident of blast.
As per preliminary reports, the blast took place on the third floor of the court complex at around 12.25 pm. Court lawyers are on strike, so lawyers were present in small numbers when the blast happened. The blast was so strong that the surrounding walls were damaged and window panes were broken.
Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said that one person died in the blast, while police had earlier claimed that two people had died.
Recently, there have been incidents of sacrilege in Gurdwaras in Punjab and the home ministry has issued an advisory to the state government to take adequate measures to prevent these incidents just before the state assembly elections next year.
