Sensex rises over 300 points in early trade, Nifty crosses 17,000

Mumbai. Shares of Infosys, HDFC and ICICI Bank rose over 300 points in early trade on Thursday led by gains in shares of Infosys, HDFC and ICICI Bank amid a positive trend in global markets.

During this period, the 30-share index was up 305.15 points or 0.54 per cent at 57,235.71. Similarly, the Nifty rose 88.25 points or 0.52 per cent to reach 17,043.70.

The biggest gain of two percent in the Sensex was in Tata Steel. Apart from this, Bajaj Finance, PowerGrid, M&M, NTPC and ITC were also among the gainers.

Bharti Airtel and Asian Paints, on the other hand, were in the red.
In the previous session, the Sensex, based on 30 major stocks, gained 611.55 points, or 1.09 per cent, at 56,930.56 and the NSE Nifty jumped 184.60 points, or 1.10 per cent, to end at 16,955.45.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 827.26 crore on a gross basis on Wednesday, according to provisional stock market data.

Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude rose 0.16 per cent to $75.40 per barrel.
