After the corona review meeting with the states on Thursday evening, the central government has expressed apprehension that the corona infection may increase in the states where assembly elections are to be held next year. Along with this, the central government has asked the states to speed up the pace of corona vaccination.

Let us inform that assembly elections are to be held in 2022 in five states, these are – Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur.

It is understood that in view of this, the Center has asked the states to consider imposing restrictions before the festivals to avoid corona infection.

The Center has advised the states to be vigilant and monitor the case positivity rate, doubling rate and clusters of new cases in the districts.

Positivity rate means that out of the number of people who were tested for corona, how many people were found to have corona infection. Similarly, the time in which the number of corona infected people doubles is called doubling rate. This shows the speed of infection.

New cases of Omicron in Maharashtra

The day the Center gave these instructions to the states, there has been a big increase in the cases of Omicron variant of corona virus in Maharashtra. According to the Health Department, 23 new cases were confirmed on Thursday. There have been 11 cases in Pimpri-Chinchwad, five in Mumbai, three in Pune, two in Osmanabad and one each in Thane, Nagpur and Mira Bhayandar.

Overall, 88 cases of Omicron have been confirmed in Maharashtra so far.

Task Force meeting on Friday

In view of the increasing cases of Omicron, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has called a meeting of the Kovid 19 Task Force through video conferencing on Friday.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has said that since Omicron surfaced, the imposition of night curfew is being discussed at the highest level. “We need to take things seriously. We don’t want another lockdown,” he said.
